Here is some advice on how to handle a dental emergency.If you have a tooth knocked out, hold the tooth only by the crown and, if it is dirty, use warm water to rinse off the root. Do not touch the root or scrub it or remove any tissue still attached to it. If at all possible, place it gently back into its socket or place it in a cup of milk.
If a tooth gets broken, rinse with warm water to clean the area and apply a cold compress to your cheek to keep the swelling down.If you have bitten your lip or tongue, clean the area gently with a clean cloth and apply a cold compress to reduce the swelling. However, if the area is bleeding heavily, or does not stop within a short amount of time, we can help.
While a toothache can certainly make life miserable, in most cases it does not require emergency care. Rinse with warm water and gloss gently around the tooth to remove any food that may have gotten trapped. Call us if pain persists.
